In our groups we made a slide that showed what happend in the five days of the Ancitent Olympics. This was a Religous. They also worship the god of sky father of gods zeus one the  first day. On the seconed day they stated horse riding and chariot races were held. There were four-horse chariot and two-horse chariot races with distances from 2 miles up to 8 miles. The last event held was the pentathlon which included five events: running wrestling, long jump, discus and javelin. The day ended. Day 3 was the most religious day of the olympics festival. Priests would make animal sacrifices in the temple of zeus. In the afternoon the racing events were held. Runners ran a long race called the dolichos. Then sprints, which was 630 feet in distance. To end the day a public feast was held.
First was wrestling, which was aimed at making the opponent fall. In the midday, boxing was held.  Boxers were often severely hurt, and in some cases killed. Pankration was the final combat event. This was a combination of boxing and wrestling. Everybody made their way to the temple of zeus with the winners leading the way. Before the festival a boy was chosen to cut a leafy branch from the ancient wild olive tree sacred to Zeus which was woven into wreaths. The winners would come forward and the Hellanodikai placed a wreath on the head of each winner. Then again, they ended the olympic festival feasting.

Hauora and Olmypics

In the olympics, atheletes are trained metally and physically, to prepare themselves for defeat or success. When all four walls are standing, it is important to have acceptance as athletes, weather they win or lose. It is important to embrace the times of accomplishments and pride, but it is fairly important to take time to learn from loses. When losing it is key to remember that the more mistakes, the more knowledgable and clever you become. Having negative mindset always brings, lost of confidence, self esteem stress motiviation and insecurites etc. When you learn to have self respect, humbleness  and strong walls, they will help you become calm in all situations(win/lose).

Motivation

This week for Writing in pairs we wrote a poem. Before starting the poem we choose a word to use for our poem. Our word was motivation, and we used the 5 senses. The 5 senses are, smell, feel, taste, hear and touch. This week for Writing in pairs we wrote a poem. Before starting the poem we choose a word to use for our poem. Our word was motivation, and we used the 5 senses. The 5 senses are, smell, feel, taste, hear and touch. In our poem we used complex sentences, metaphor, simile and abstract nouns. To help us write our poem we also used wordhippo to help find other interesting words. We used DRAFT to edit our poem. DRAFT stands for: Delete Rearrange Add Fix Talk Metaphor A metaphor is a comparison of two things, saying one thing is the other without using ‘like’ or ‘as’. An abstract noun is one that refers to an idea, quality or state (you cannot see, hear, touch or smell an abstract noun). The punctuation we used was full stops and commas. Lastly, a simile is comparing two things using ‘like’ or ‘as’. I enjoyed this activity because we got to create interesting poems.

Maori

 LI:To translate names.

This week we translated names into Maori. Some name hat were translated were Paul, Catherine,John, Rachel, Angela, and Jim but in Maori they are, Paora, Katarina, Hoani, Rahera, Anahera, and Hemi.
Then we answer some question. On of the question was, He aha te huarere, inaianei. I said hei kapua, It is cloudy.

Mistery

LI: T write a abstract noun senses poem.

Today, we focused on writing abstract noun senses poems. An abstract noun is an existing that cannot be touched or physical obtained such as, happiness, sadness, and anger. Metaphors compare two things without using the words 'like' or 'as'. The five human senses are sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell.

For this task we worked collaboratively to create a poem using abstract nouns. Our group was given a list of abstract nouns that we can use to write a poem. The abstract noun we choose was misery. We used the five senses to describe what misery sounds, looks, tastes, and smells like while using metaphors to structure a poem correctly.

An abstract noun is a feeling or emotion that cannot be physically touched. A metaphor is the comparison between two things without using as or like.

For example: Happiness is a river of joy that is flowing through my heart.

The word happiness is the abstract noun and is used to create this metaphor.

The five senses are: hear, touch, smell, feel and see. Each of these five senses are what many humans are able to do.

A metaphor is the comparison between two things without using as or like.

I really enjoyed doing this because I got to work collaboratively and work together in a group and also use powerful words to strengthen the poem to make our poem stand out.

Inquriy

LI : to consider both perspectives.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO to explain the evidence and perspective of a maori story. We read about Sacred Spots from Māori Mythology. We used the different evidence from the articles to create an opinion on whether we think it is true or false.

The story we chose to do was about the Tongariro National Park. This story talked about the mountains that surrounded Taupo lake, they were all male except for one. Her name was Pihanga. They fought for the love of Pihanga, only one came out victorious. That mountain was Tongariro.

Main ideas

LI: to identify the main ideas in the text.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a DLO explaining the main ideas of the story of how maui slowed the sun. We watched a video explaining the story of how maui slowed the sun and why.

Maui and the villagers weren’t able to finish off their tasks during the day because the sun went by too fast. They got sick of it so maui and his brother made a plan to slow the sun. They used flax ropes and he magical jawbone Maui was given by his grandmother.

Summarising

LI: to explain in fewer words what the text is about.

For our Inquiry we were learning about Matariki, and the origin story. Our task was to watch a video on the Maori Creation story and we had to summarise the video. The video was an artist representing and creating the story through sand art.

Our 20 important words had to be the top important words from the video, words that represented the story. Then from the 20 we had to pick the 6 most important words Then using those 6 words we had to sum up the story in a few sentences.

Venn Diagram

LI: to find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a Venn Diagram. For our Venn Diagram we compared the differences and similarities between the Video and Written Version of the Maori Creation Story.

A Venn Diagram, is a diagram showcasing the differences and similarities between two different things.

Build was the first thing we found out. We looked at the parts and the martiels that were going to
use.Cardboard shaped wheels, straws and pencils are needed as a wheel and axle for our rover

Thick cardboard is going to be used at the base of our rove We are going to use paper clips that are acting as our hook axle.

Test was the seconed thing we found out.We are going to be testing the different variables for our rover. We needed to make sure that we do not put too much tape on the wheels so they are able to rotate.

Evaluate was the last thing we found out.We were estimating and analysing how well we think the performance of our rover would be. While building our rover we need to evaluate how well the performance would be depending on the materials and the rover itself.  We are gonna be using statistics and measurements to estimate how well our rover is going to perform.

Me vs My fear

LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt.

I found this activity hrad because I tryed to find words that explan my fellings.

Me vs my fear

Finally, I can take on a challenge that scares me a  lot. Once I was buckled up in the harness I was thinking in my head, Can I do this?  Would I fall off? Is my harness secure. I watched my teammates succeed in fear so they gave me the confidence to do it too.

My legs were shaking once I touched the ladder. I was about to cry. I held on to the ladder tight. I looked to find the steps.

Soon I got on the beam. I grabbed the rope and pulled it closer to me. My legs were shaking like an earthquake . I tried not to look down because that scared me even more.

After I hugged the pole I went into the middle and did a dance. The dance I did was a dab. Then I lowered the beam. When I went down I was happy that I completed the  challenge.

I felt happy when I completed my challenges and now I think I am not scared of heights anymore

This week LS2 have been celebrating our camp. I created this collage to show my time at camp and the activities I enjoyed. To make my collage effective I thought about the size of the images, the angle of the images and I tried hard not to leave any gaps between the photos.

I Found the activity funny because i saw some photos of me that were funny.

Cleaning john drive

For this cybersmart task, we created a slide helping John clean his google drive. First we placed John’s different DLO’s into the right folder then we cleaned our own google drive. Next we had to put a red circle over the DLO that is not titled or if it has nothing in it. After that we took a photo of our clean machine google drive to show others what their google drive should look like and how it should be. The purpose of this task is to show everyone where and why to put their DLO’s in different folders so that it's easy to find.

Summarising

Our activity for reading was summarising a text. The text is called For the Ancestors. It's about a girl named Matalena who wanted to carry on her fathers legacy by proving that she a good leader. To show that she was a leader she needed to get a tattoo. In Samoa the word for Tattoo is Tatau. Matalena wanted to get a Tatau called the Malu.

Mihi Whakatau

This week for mahi, I learnt Maori words for places that I live next to. For example, the Maori name for Mt Wellington is Maungarei.

After i found the Maori names for the places I live next to, I had to trace pictures of  the places that I live next to. I thought this activity was difficult because i found it challenging to figure out when to use poly-lines or curve.
